River Bank Restoration Pemigewasset River Mountain River Condos
Pemigewasset River Stream Bank Restoration
Mountain River Condominium Association

Buildings, in Thornton NH,  were threatened by bank erosion that could, if unchecked, threaten the stability of the nearby buildings. Ecosystems staff surveyed the bank of the river and adjacent areas, and determined that the cause of the erosion was mostly from groundwater breakout, and not scour from high water events, as initially suspected.

A ground water interceptor trench was installed between the buildings and the top of bank, to reduce the outward water pressure on the slope. An open celled Geo-Web was anchored to the slope and filled with compost and planted with colorful shrubs that attract wildlife. This picture was taken 10 years after planting, and show the  attractive shrubs in the foreground that attest to the long term bank stability.
