Wetland Delineation

Updated: May 20, 2023

Wetlands are important ecosystems that provide a variety of benefits, including flood control, water quality improvement, and wildlife habitat. However, wetlands are also regulated by the government, and any development or disturbance in or near wetlands requires a wetland delineation.

Wetland delineation is done by a Certified Wetland Scientist (CWS) who will assess the hydrology, vegetation, and soils of the area. Once the boundaries of the wetland have been determined, flagging will be placed along each upland/wetland boundary to clearly mark the boundaries on site, and a digital map of the wetland boundaries can be created.

The Wetland Boundary map shows the approximate wetland boundaries on publically available Global Information Systems (GIS) data layers. These maps are appropriate for conceptual site planning and to assist land survey crews in finding and locating our flags. We also offer a survey-grade GPS service with highly accurate maps and data files suitable for survey/engineering plans, as a cost effective option.
