Demonstrating the successful re-establishment of vegetation is an important step towards project completion and compliance with environmental permits. Ecosystems' vegetative cover assessment method uses a combination of direct observation and aerial orthophotos to determine the percent of vegetative cover. This method is more accurate than visual estimates alone, and is preferred by engineers, scientists and environmental regulators.
Hundreds of aerial drone photos are taken, and stitched together to create an orthogonally projected site map.
Color variations and vegetation height are then compared with site observations to classify vegetative cover types. Contrasting colors are then assigned to each cover type, as shown.
The area for each vegetative class is computed, and compiled, as shown below.
